From BURNOUT to BLISS

DAY 1 OF 6

What is BLISS?

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”
John 10:10

Jesus never promised happiness. To the contrary, He promised difficulty to all His followers. And He called us specifically to face our difficulties with faith. Yet, on a lighter note, He did promise abundance – a fulfilled life overflowing into the lives of others (John 4:14, 10:10).

We must know that we will go through fiery trials. But Jesus’ aim is for us to be refined by these fires, and not to be burned out (John 16:33). You see, Jesus embodied a joy and peace like none other. His life painted the picture of bliss. But not bliss as we’ve seen pictured by Hollywood films or by travel brochures. His bliss could rather be redefined as ‘a state of perfect joy; a happiness despite things going wrong.’

This bliss remains not because we passively have everything going our way, but because we actively keep ourselves fulfilled enough in Christ to remain dedicated to our faith and calling. This is a bliss that can remain despite our trials by fire and won’t burn out. This is not an uninvolved, oblivious to reality kind of high, but rather a discipline of check-ins and routine of soul feeding, modelled after the Source of Life Himself – Jesus.

Over the next five devotionals we will break-up the word BLISS as an acronym of dedicated disciplines we as followers of Christ should build into our lives on a routine basis – especially those of us who are called to lead and give of ourselves regularly.

BLISS stands for:

- Breakaway – From the Digital & Driven World

- Leisure – Time with Family & Friends

- Intercession– for Others and Own Vision

- Strengthen – your Physical Wellness

- Slow Down – Take Time to Rest

If you want to find happiness within holiness and live a life of wholeness, one that’s way different from the broken world around you, join us on this journey of what bliss looks like with Jesus.

Get your Bible, maybe even a notebook and a pen, and let’s dig a little deeper…

Read Psalm 27 and reflect on the following…

1. What is your observation(s) from today’s scripture and devotional?

2. How will you apply what you have learned today?

3. Pray about what God’s Word and the Holy Spirit is revealing to you…
