Depth, Diversity, and Divine Promise of the Great Commission

DAY 5 OF 7

The Great Commission is a central theme of God's heart for all the nations from Genesis to Revelation. Yet, Jesus gives specific significance by allowing the gospel writers to record five instances of the Great Commission.

Today, we will look at the fourth of these five passages chronologically and pull out the emphasis.

The fourth passage chronologically is Luke 24:44-49.

Look at the context.

  • Where did Jesus speak this passage?
    • Jerusalem (v33)
  • When did it happen?
    • Day of the ascension (v50)
  • Who originally heard it?
    • 11 Disciples (v33)
  • What was the mandate?
    • Proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sins (v47)
  • What was the emphasis?
    • The Message

Jesus wanted to ensure that His disciples' message was clear and concise. We are to carry a message of repentance and forgiveness of sins in the name of Jesus to all nations.

Do you have a clear, concise, and contextual way to share the gospel with those like you and those culturally different from you? Are you sharing regularly and equipping others to share? Healthy disciples make disciples who obey all of the Great Commission, which includes proclaiming the message.

Pray and ask God to give you gospel clarity, boldness to share, and new disciples to equip you to share the message of hope and love found in the person of Jesus.
