Create a Habit of Prayerનમૂનો
The purpose of this study is to encourage a habit of prayer and build a strong foundation for your communication with God. Part of that is discovering those things that will cause us to drift from consistent prayer. Colossians 4:2 has me thinking of three practical challenges we face with prayer.
1. A lack of dedication - Paul is calling the Colossians to be steadfast/consistent.
2. A sluggish, distracted approach - Paul is calling the Colossians to be watchful.
3. A selfish heart that prays only for requests - Paul is calling the Colossians to do it with praise and thanksgiving.
It's amazing to me to read how Paul addressed these three heart issues that seem to plague us two thousand years later. Don't we commonly blame distractions for interrupting or keeping us from our prayer time? Or lack of time, which really translates to a lack of dedication or not making it a priority. And how many of us are afraid of treating God like a vending machine? I hear these thoughts all the time from people who feel stuck in a prayer rut.
The fact that Paul addressed them so long ago reminds me that 1) I am not alone and 2) I don't have to stay stuck. He's got the remedy laid out plainly.
My heart's desire is to have the words earnest, diligent, alert, attentive, and grateful describe my prayers, and this passage motivates me to prepare my heart for meaningful time with the Lord.
ACTION STEP: Dedicate time to prayer. Write it in your planner. Focus - Pick a spot clear from distractions. Give Thanks - Write out 5 gratitudes.
