Two Gifts From God: Singleness and Marriage

DAY 1 OF 6

Completeness in Christ: Embracing God’s Gifts

In our study of 1 Corinthians 7, we encounter a common struggle among Christians—the feeling we lack something essential in our lives. Married believers may yearn for children, while single believers may long for marriage. These are deep-seated desires. Many people wrestle with a sense of incompleteness. However, we must recognize that while marriage and children are precious gifts from God, they do not define us. Every child of God, whether single or married, with or without children, can find wholeness and true satisfaction in Jesus Christ.

It is only natural to cherish the idea of building a family and experiencing the joys of parenthood. For those who have not yet realized these dreams, the yearning can lead to an unfulfilled state of mind. I’ve witnessed loving couples who grieve over their inability to conceive. And I’ve known single individuals who, as the years pass, question why they have not found a life partner, feeling like something is missing.

However, our completeness does not rely on achieving these desires. God’s love transcends our earthly circumstances, and His plan for our lives is beyond what we can envision. Yes, marriage and children are precious gifts, but they are not the only paths to growth and fulfillment. In Christ, we find a greater gift—a profound sense of completeness surpassing any other longing.

As children of God, we possess abundant reasons to be wholly satisfied in the Lord. Whether we are single or married or have children, we are complete in Christ. The apostle Paul reminds us that contentment is not found in external circumstances but in the grace and sufficiency of our Savior. Our lives are meant to be lived in the awareness of God’s blessings and His ability to meet every need we have.

So, let us not allow discontentment to cloud our perspective. Instead, let us embrace God’s gifts, whether they align with our desires. The Father gives us good gifts (Matthew 7:11, Luke 11:13, James 1:17). Trusting in His perfect plan, we find peace knowing He has our best interests at heart. Our lives should be a reflection of gratitude, recognizing how enriched we are in the Lord.

Through these devotionals, let us open our hearts to the truth that completeness in Christ is the foundation of our contentment. Together, we will explore the various aspects of living a fulfilled life in Him. Whether you are single or married, with children or without, God’s love and provision extend to every area of your life. May this journey deepen our understanding of the gifts God has bestowed upon us and lead us to embrace the fullness of His grace. Let us start by affirming that completeness in Christ is not just a concept but a reality that transforms our hearts and minds. The Lord invites us to experience His all-sufficient love, guiding us toward genuine contentment in every season of life.
