DAY 27 OF 31

Bored Believers

Proverbs 5:19 is the one verse you don’t want your pastor to ask you to read out loud in a Bible study; it makes us blush. But why does Solomon command this man to only be satisfied with his wife’s body, to always be enraptured by her love alone? Because sadly, within most men, there is a susceptibility to get bored easily. Why do rich men buy a new sports car every month? Why do many pro athletes go through women like hot dinners? Why are men obsessed by the latest gadget? The answer is, most men are easily discontented.

Just this week I heard an interview with a preacher who said that for years he couldn’t find the right woman to marry; he would date one for a few months, then get bored. Satan has exploited this flaw in men by providing men (and discontented women) with a plethora of exciting, fresh bodies to fixate over on the Internet. Whatever your sexual preference, you can find it on the web. It’s called a web because once you’re on it, you can’t get off, until that big evil spider comes along and sucks the life out of you. If you’re married, thank God every day for the beauty of your wife. If you’re not married and burn with lust, actively seek a wife if you haven’t begun to already. Here’s the beautiful thing about marriage: the more intimacy you have with your spouse, the more the connection and the attraction grows. On the flip side, however, the more you gaze at other people’s bodies, the more dissatisfied you become—not only with your spouse, but with life in general. What used to excite you now bores you, until your appetites get weirder and weirder.
