Anxiety Is Real: So Is God

DAY 5 OF 5

He’s Still at Work

As someone who continues to walk through anxiety, there are days I wake up with multiple thoughts and worries swirling in my mind like a tornado. Actually, it happened yesterday.

It’s easy to get down on ourselves when our progress isn’t as fast as we’d like or when we relapse into a period of deep anxiety. But it’s OK. God’s not done with us—even when He doesn’t answer prayers as fast as we’d like. He’s still at work.

The Apostle Paul pleaded with God three times to remove a “thorn in his side,” but God didn’t. I can imagine that Paul wasn’t happy about it, but it forced him to rely even more on God’s strength (2 Corinthians 12:7-9).

When I’m anxious, I find it comforting to talk about my anxiety and journal my worries. When you feel yourself slipping into anxiety, who comforts you? I encourage you to reach out to those people. Counseling has been transformational in my journey toward healing. It has helped me better connect to myself, others, and God.

Take some time to read all of Psalm 23 today and know if you are in the darkest valley, God is with you. If you are coming out of the valley, God is with you. And if you feel you are heading back toward a dark valley, God is with you.

Anxiety is real, but so is God. His truths are more powerful than any lie Satan tries to tell you. Because of that, you can cast your anxieties on God. He hears you and cares for you. He is making all things new. Hold on to the hope of the gospel and surround yourself with others who point you to Jesus.

At FamilyLife, we want to be a part of your journey, so we’ve gathered some of our best resources on anxiety in one place. If you need more help navigating your anxiety, please visit our “Overcoming Anxiety” page. You’re not alone.
