- 1 & 2 Samuel
- 1 Kings 1-11
- 1 Chronicles
- 2 Chronicles 1-9
- Job
- Most Psalms
- Many Proverbs
- Ecclesiastes
- Song of Songs
Dates:
- 1050 - 930BC
Main Points:
1. The Israelites reject God’s rule over them, desiring to be led by a human king like the other nations.
2. Saul is the king the people asked for; David is the king God wanted.
3. God establishes the Davidic Covenant:
- David’s line will be the royal lineage
- The Messiah will come from David’s line and will reign forever
4. Solomon builds the Temple in Jerusalem where God—Israel’s true King—can dwell.
Summary:
The Israelites reject God as their king and request a human king instead. At first, God gives them a self-serving king in Saul. He rules like the kings of other nations, viewing himself as the ultimate authority. After Saul, God gives Israel the kind of king he wanted in David—a man who submitted to God’s will and purposes. David is not perfect, but he does his best to lead the nationto obey God, the true King. In the Davidic covenant, God promises that he will forever establish the reign of one of David’s sons.
About this Plan
This plan is a guide to discover God’s story as it unfolds in the Bible - from Genesis through Revelation. Over 12 days, each devotional will introduce one part of that story. Each will list the Scripture passages covering that period, and dates, highlight its main points and briefly summarize the part it plays within the context of God’s redemptive plan. The Bible reading each day should take about 30 minutes.
