The Mystery of Worship

DAY 3 OF 7

Something else King Jehosaphat does in preparation for war is prayer. In fact, it is the first thing he does! The word prayer is combined with the word worship too. Maybe you have participated in a “Prayer & Praise Night” or you hosted a “Worship & Prayer Night”.

The Hebrew word for prayer is TEFILLA. It means prayer, but also supplication, intersession, call, intervention, conversation, and mediation.

“(…) Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you. (…) Our God, (…) for your name is in this house (…)”

Jehosaphat’s words are words of praise. His words could easily be put in a contemporary worship song, right? The prayer is worship, but not quite because God is being praised…

The most beautiful part is that Jehosaphat’s first decision is to pray. In the midst of despair. What does that tell us about his heart toward God? I believe God was Jehosaphat’s go-to when he got into trouble.

What do you do when you hear bad news? Do you start doubting God? Get angry at Him or blame Him?

Look at Jehosaphat. He does exactly what you can do: pray to God. Always. 🙏
