Bible Characters Who Fulfilled Their Destiny: And How You Can Do the Sameનમૂનો
David’s calling
David was a man who was called to be the second King of Israel — a holy man devoted to running the country according to God’s design. He had to make godly decisions about the kingdom’s resources, lead the army, and ensure there was legal justice. Not just anyone could fulfil this role and God carefully raised up David to rule his people.
David faced many obstacles and learned many lessons throughout his life, recorded in 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, and 1 Chronicles. Interestingly, he was first anointed as king in secret, without the public — or even the King at the time — knowing that he would one day take over the throne. He was a lowly shepherd whom not even his family thought much of. God moved him into the palace, using his incredible musical gift to gain favour with King Saul, as well as his bravery in knocking out Goliath.
Before David was Famous…
What’s amazing about David is that he had great integrity: integrity can be defined as doing things with excellence, even when no one is watching. When no one was watching him look after the sheep, he was practicing the use of his slingshot to defend them against wild beasts. Later, when everyone was watching, he defeated Goliath with a single shot, and, as King, defended Israel against their enemies. When no one was watching him, he learned to play the lyre with great skill, and later, his musical abilities gained him access to the throne room. When no one was watching, he devoted songs of worship to God, delighting in Him and worshiping Him. Later, he was able to lead his people into right-living before God. His dedication to writing beautiful songs, before and after his fame, means that he fulfilled his destiny in writing scripture through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit: Psalms that have been studied by Christians for centuries.
Temple of the Holy Spirit
Jesus promised that as children of God we would know what to do because of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. We are led by the Holy Spirit to do what pleases God and thus live with integrity in every moment - so that whatever we eat or drink or whatever we do, we can do it for His glory.
Reflective Question
What has God called you to that you have perhaps neglected because it seemed insignificant to you?
Prayer
Holy God, what can I be faithful with today, even though no one is watching? What can I allow You to strengthen in me, even if it doesn’t seem like it matters right now? Thank You that even today You are growing me into the person who will step into my destiny soon.
Amen.
