DAY 7 OF 7

Never Let You Go

Have you ever been left out or left behind? Have you ever felt very lonely or even abandoned? Have you ever felt that pit in your stomach, eerie dread, that you might lose the thing that is most important to you? These are not fun experiences and the emotions they evoke are almost impossible to bear in large doses.

Every human is created with a ferocious desire to feel safe, to feel protected, and to feel like no matter what, things are going to be ok. We are all created with a deep need to experience a loving relationship that can never be broken or taken away. Unfortunately, because of sin and the broken world we live in, finding this type of relationship in another person is impossible. The human soul was not designed to place its hope in things that can be taken away.

This is why Christianity is distinct from every other world religion. Through Christ, dreadful sinners like you and me are invited into a relationship with our Creator God that can never be broken. We learn over and over throughout the Scriptures that the love of God for Christ followers can never be taken away.

Romans 8:35, 38-39: “[35] Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?...[38] For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, [39] nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (ESV).

Because of Jesus, God will truly never let us go. Romans 8 covers all of the possible categories that could threaten the father/child relationship we now share with our Creator God because of Jesus. The point is that there is truly nothing that can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. This means even ourselves and even the worst case scenario. Through Christ, now, every second and throughout all eternity, we are invited to rest in God’s strong and unbreakable love and acceptance. God’s perfect love is the only power that can truly cast out all of our fears (1 John 4:18).

Freedom is found in the grace of Jesus Christ. If you woke up a Christian this morning...if you woke up with any desire to love and obey Jesus, it is not because of your resolve to maintain your spiritual status as you slept. Jesus literally kept you a Christian as you slept and woke you up as one. After all, Hebrews 1:3 tells us that Jesus upholds the Universe by the power of His Word.

Philippians 1:6: “[6] And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (ESV).

When you are weak, Jesus is always strong. Christian, even if you turn your back on God today, shake your fist at Him, and try to walk away, He will never let you go. Even when you fail, and on your worst day of sin, His love for you remains unmoved if you are in Christ. Because God’s love for His children has nothing to do with His children and everything to do with Jesus. If you are in Christ, through faith in Him, you now look just like him (Galatians 3:27). This is why God will never let you go - because He is the faithful One. This is why we don’t have to be faithful to remain safely in His love and arms. We don’t have to be, but we GET TO BE! This kind of love is meant to motivate faithfulness in you today. He loves you today for who you are, not for who you should be (because of Jesus)!
