Lessons From Laurelનમૂનો
Taste and see that the Lord is GOOD!
I am so excited to see what Jesus has for us today!
Another one of the great lessons that I have learned from Laurel is the ability to slow down and savor many of life’s small miracles.
One of the outcomes of Laurel’s eye disease is that life just takes a little more time. We have had to learn to change our pace, build in more time, and enjoy every moment as a sacred gift from God. This is a challenge for me as someone who often moves through life too quickly. But I have learned that strategic pauses just make life so much more miraculous.
The other day, I watched Laurel enjoy a meal at our favorite restaurant. We often joke that we eat too fast, and Laurel had already commented on the speed at which I was devouring my food! So, she invited me to slow down and savor everything.
When I slowed down enough to taste my food, I enjoyed it much more. My food enjoyment grew into a great appreciation for the company I was in, the atmosphere and beauty of my surroundings, the wonderful conversation and laughter that was occurring, and increasing gratitude for a moment of peace, enjoyment, and love.
Laurel has taught me so much about “savoring” those small and miraculous life moments. She has modeled what life looks like when we rest in Him and His gift of time together. Interestingly, the word “Sabbath” literally means to savor and rest.
King David, in Psalm 34:4-8, says:
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.
Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” (NIV)
Did you see that invitation? Taste and see that the Lord is good.
I want to challenge you today to taste and savor the goodness of God. Slow down, pause, and reflect on ALL that God has done for you, including the blessings He has given you! When we pause and reflect, we immediately see that the Lord is Good!
I have been meditating on Psalm 34. This means I am intentionally slowing down my mind, putting aside the “to-do” list, and engaging deeply with my Savior. I am using the senses God gave me to step into a miraculous invitation to experience Him at a whole new level.
As King David said above, “This poor man called, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all of his troubles.” As I sat enjoying the engagement with Laurel, watching her joy in the small moments, I could not help but think how rich I am to be able to share life with Jesus and his precious daughter, Laurel.
Stop and savor. Taste and see. What you experience doing that with Jesus is nothing short of a miracle...
You are a miracle too!
