The Daily Grind of the Season

DAY 2 OF 5

Love Your Partners

As officials, how many opportunities do we receive daily to portray God’s love? It’s not easy in today’s society and culture but there are many opportunities in the locker room or in a car ride to the game, the pre-game or post-game meal. How many times do we look at our schedule, see our partners on a particular game and give the classic eye roll. We meet them at the gym or sit in silence in the locker room or stay in a separate locker room even? I’m guilty of sitting in silence or just deflecting the conversation away from controversy. I actually pride myself in bringing the crew together and eliminating the outside noise, but there are times when I’m just tired and don’t feel like talking about Jesus tonight because it's late January and the daily grind is wearing on me. Or being the least experienced on a crew and not wanting to ruffle any feathers. How sad is that. We’ve all been there. Our officiating partners are our neighbors and we are to love them as much as we are to love ourselves. How can you be a good neighbor and love your officiating partners? We all have a lot of love to share about Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

When is the last time you have offered to pray with a referee partner?

When is the last time you have asked a referee partner if there is something you could be praying for them?

About this Plan

The Daily Grind of the Season

Being a Christian can be similar to being a sports official. Striving for perfection but coming up short. Trust the system. Trust the process. Trust your gut, trust your training. Sound familiar? How many of us hear that or self-talk those reminders during our game. All of these are great reminders and processes to becoming a successful official. But we need to remember, it’s the Holy Spirit we should be listening to in those locker rooms, car rides, dinners and hotel rooms.
