Find Your People

DAY 6 OF 6

Enjoying The Balance In Biblical Friendship

Even good things are destroyed when there is no balance.

Moses invested in people. He poured himself into leading and caring for the Israelites and was even their advocate before God. It’s clear that he deeply loved the people he led. However, that kind of constant investment into others can drain a person. Always pouring out eventually equals burning out and Moses was no exception.

In Exodus 18, we see Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, realized this was happening to him and stepped in to offer wise advice. Jethro steered Moses toward balance. Just as important as taking his father-in-law’s advice, Moses willingly accepted his help.

Most of us have experienced those times when we’re running on empty. Our emotions are sapped from over-investing in others. This is where biblical friendship steps in. We need inner-circle friends who help refill us.

Investment in others is tricky. If we’re not careful, we can wear ourselves out to the point where we can’t help anyone anymore.

Yes, we are called to selflessly love others like Jesus — but even Jesus withdrew. Yes, we should make investments in people—but we must have people in our lives who invest in us. God made us for relationships. We’re not self-sufficient, and our energy runs out. So, in all of your investing in others, make sure to connect with the friends who will invest in you. And then you’ll be OK!

As you engage with God’s Word:

● Who are my friends that fill me up?

● What is God saying to me?

● How can I apply what God is teaching me?

● How can I be specific in prayer today?

After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer. If you have any prayer requests or testimonies you'd like to share, we'd love to hear from you—just visit SteveRobinson.com today to connect with our team or sign up for my weekly devotional email today!

About this Plan

Find Your People

Society tells us possessions, power, and position determine the quality of our lives; however, Scripture paints a different picture entirely. God has created each of us with the innate desire to know others and be known by them—we were created for relationships. Join me on this six-day journey as we learn what biblical friendship looks like and how to build these relationships.
