What’s Your Attitude?
How do you feel when the person who has been harassing you or persecuting you meets his end? Do you feel elated? Do you gloat that the Lord was with you and removed your enemy? Sometimes I have caught myself doing that. However, I’ve learnt much from David. Even though Saul was after his life, tried to kill him and was insecure by his popularity, David maintained a good attitude and honored him.
Today, we read about the death of Saul and the Amalekite, who came from Saul’s camp to tell David about Saul’s death. He probably thought that having killed Saul, on behalf of David, he would earn a huge reward. But much to his dismay, David’s attitude towards Saul was exemplary. David rewarded the Amalekite with his own death!
David held the Lord’s house and the Lord’s anointed in great esteem. Not one of the kings that came after David had the same passion and zeal for the Lord. Even though this was the moment of victory that would make him king, David valued the leadership of Saul, as the anointed King of Israel. In spite of knowing that the Lord had anointed him to be Saul’s replacement, he kept a good attitude and did not touch the Lord’s anointed.
If we keep our attitude right towards God’s house and towards His anointed, in spite of their weaknesses, God will take us to a much higher place in our lives. As Pastor S. Joseph (Founder of New Life Movement International) says, “Our attitude will determine our altitude.”
Prayer
God, I want to have the right attitude towards people, especially those who have hurt me and those You have placed in positions of leadership over me. Please heal these relationships. Amen.
