Real Hope: Meeting With God

DAY 1 OF 5

Fingerprints Of God

I recently spoke with a dad of two small boys who told me that making time to be with God was too difficult for him. With full work days and young children who still didn’t sleep through the night, finding a quiet place to focus on God was unattainable. I asked if he might plan, each day, to acknowledge one place where he recognised the fingerprint of God. He smiled and told me about how he had recently decided to take his camera everywhere and in moments that caught his attention he snapped photos of nature. He just hadn’t realised how these life-giving moments were helping him stop for a moment, be attentive to the present, and be thankful for a wonderfully creative God.

There are times when we need to evaluate who and what is driving our busy living and to make adjustments, but there are also times when life is full and we just need to accept that reality. In those times I’m learning to practice being attentive to God’s presence anyway.

When life is hectic I use these: prayer as conversation with God in the middle of chaos; thankfulness for all the good I’ve seen that day; recognising emotions and giving them to God as my intercession for a broken world; and taking a verse and remembering it through my day. I find it a comfort to know the disciples didn’t recognise the risen Jesus with them until they ate dinner together. I don’t always need to be still or quiet to know that God is present.
