Our God Will See Us Throughનમૂનો
THIS IS MY SONG
By Lauren Lee Anderson
It’s been said that hymns are companions for life travelers. From generation to generation, there have been songs in the mouths of God’s people. Lyrics have always been a unique way for the character of God to sink deep into people’s bones. And it’s often a melody that carries people through the struggles we face on this journey of life.
The first song recorded in the Bible is a beautiful example of this. In Exodus 15, we find the children of Israel standing on the other side of the Red Sea having barely escaped Pharaoh and his army. Not only did God make a way to the other side of their obstacle, but he took out their enemy along the way. In an act of spontaneous praise, the Israelites sang:
I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. The horse and rider, he has thrown into the sea. The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
When we experience the rescue of God, we cannot help but worship. This has been true since the beginning of the world.
When we reflect on the songs of the people of faith who have gone before us, we can recognize the unchanging character of God.
We remember…
In Christ alone, my hope is found…
Amazing grace that saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, now I am found
I was blind, now I see…
An old rugged cross, the emblem of suffering and shame…
Jesus paid it all, and all to him I owe…
Because he lives, I can face tomorrow
Because he lives, all fear is gone
Life is worth the living just because he lives…
The same God who was faithful to the writers of those familiar hymns remains faithful to us. The God who provided comfort and peace in times of trouble is providing them today when we experience hardship. The songs of the church are a testimony to the God who saved the Israelites and the God who saves today.
Is there a hymn or worship song that holds special meaning for you? Take a moment right now to listen to that song. How can you declare God’s past and present faithfulness to you through the words of that song?

About this Plan
What does it really mean to worship God? It can be tempting to view worship simply as the songs we sing on Sunday. But that can’t be our only response to a gracious God who passionately pursues us, time and time again. In this reading plan, Lauren Lee Anderson and Clay Finnesand share reflections behind the lyrics of the latest North Point Worship album, Our God Will See Us Through.
