Remember Who You Are
Has someone ever said something rude to you that caught you totally off guard? When that happens to me, I usually go through a list of things I wish I were quick enough to say at that moment. In my head, I’m always very clever and snide and would totally have put the other person in their place!
But once I’ve had time to calm down, I’m always glad I didn’t try to be witty. Because, as a Jesus follower, that isn’t the kind of person I want to be.
These verses in Romans 12 teach us how to treat others when they’re mean or dishonest with us. And, if we’re honest with ourselves, these are some of the most challenging things to do as a Christian.
My college minister used to tell stories about being a kid and getting ready to head out the door for the day. Each morning his dad would say “Remember who you are!” In other words, remember the kind of person I’ve raised you to be. Remember the things in life that you value.
Regardless of how people treat me or wrong me, at the end of the day, I want to sleep well, knowing I’ve been true to myself and the kind of person God wants me to be. I want to be the kind of person who is trying to live like Jesus, loving others even when we feel like they don’t deserve it.

About this Plan
If we’re honest, some things we read in the Bible leave us shaking our heads. Is it really even possible to sincerely love people who are different from us? Can we really be content with what we have? How about prayer? Does God really hear us? During this study, we’re going to talk about how things that can seem so impossible to us are completely possible with God. Really!
