Peace in the Midst of Turmoil

DAY 3 OF 5

Peace is one of those things that is most noticeable when there is an absence of it in our lives.

We feel its void when we receive that phone call from the doctor’s office with concerning news. We long for it when we have a fracture within a close family relationship. We desire it to correct the political and racial divides within our nation.

In these moments, we know that we need more than a bandaid to fix the problem. We need a long term solution.

The answer to our issues is peace. More specifically, the answer is found in the Person who embodies peace.

Jesus said, “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

When Jesus spoke these words He knew that there would be hard and dark days. In fact, He Himself experienced the betrayal of His friends and the rejection of the ones He came to save. He knew that trouble would find us and threaten to leave us breathless, just like it had for Him. That’s exactly why He gave us His Word to hold on to in times of turmoil.

He wants us to take heart!

Why? Because He has overcome the world!

That is a promise that we can call upon when our world is shaken. When our security is threatened. When our best friend betrays us. When our heart is breaking.

So the next time that life feels uncertain and we don’t know what to do, we extend our hand and take hold of His, allowing His peace to wash over us. Our sovereign God knows exactly what we need and He freely gives it to us. We take heart because He has overcome the world. He is our peace.
