Why Our Work Matters

DAY 4 OF 5

Why Our Work Matters – Part IV

In this Bible reading plan, we’re discussing some of the reasons God intended us to work. So far, we have looked at purpose, provision and productivity. Today, we’ll consider Pleasing to the Eyes.

When I was a banker, I financed a new, pristine golf course. When builders completed the course, I played the 2nd round of golf ever played on that course!

As I stood on the impeccably manicured fairway, nestled in a stunningly beautiful setting, surrounded by animal life, my heart instantly connected to God due to the beauty I experienced.

In Genesis 2:9 we read, "The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food."

God was concerned about creating something aesthetically pleasing to others, as we should be, too.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do you think creating something pleasing to the eye always involves making something tangible?
  • What’s one way workers can create something pleasing to the eye that doesn’t involve making something tangible?
  • How can you create something pleasing to the eye at your job or place of business?

About this Plan

Why Our Work Matters

Work is more than a means to an end. It’s more than a way to pay our home mortgage or electric bill. Work is something that God created us for before the fall. In this Bible reading plan, we will look at some of the reasons why God intends for us to work.
