Daily Bible Reading – December 2021: God’s Word of Joyનમૂનો
December 12
Introduction
Today’s reading is the concluding chapter to the Book of Isaiah and is in the form of an oracle pertaining to worship matters. This passage speaks against those who worshiped the LORD with outward acts but otherwise failed to obey him. The LORD promises to restore Jerusalem, and the reading concludes with a description of the fate awaiting those who rebelled against the LORD.
Today’s Scripture Reading
Isaiah 66:1-24
Today’s Key Verse: Isaiah 66:1a
The LORD says, “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.”
Reflect
Verse 1 in today’s reading is the only place in the Old Testament that refers to the earth as the LORD’s footstool, a verse quoted by the first Christian martyr Stephen in Acts 7:49. What does this image suggest to you about God and God’s relationship to creation? (The “house” mentioned in verse 1 refers to the Temple in Jerusalem which was in the process of being rebuilt.) According to verse 2, with whom is the LORD pleased? Reread verses 10-14. How is the restoration of Jerusalem described? In what ways do your worship practices demonstrate your faithfulness and trust in God? For what will you rejoice today?
Pray
Sovereign God, heaven is your throne and the earth is your footstool. I come to your throne of grace with a humble and repentant heart. Teach me to obey you and keep me faithful, trusting in your promises and rejoicing in your love and salvation. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Houses of worship undergoing restoration
Tomorrow’s Reading
