Lesson Title: The Secret of Sibling Love
Character Focus: Bear With
Prayer Focus: Child to Child/Siblings
Focus Verse: COL.3.13A
Parents believe if they could just get their children to love each other, every other relationship will fall into place. If nothing else, one thing is true of our children: deep within each of their hearts is the cry not only to be loved, but to love in return. There is simply so much at war around kids today pulling them from doing what God designed them to do.
Just as you love each of your children uniquely, you need to coach your children how to love each other differently. We have to fill in the gap for our children who know in their heads what is right yet cannot do it in their own strength.
The key already lies within kids’ hearts, but it’s up to parents to coach them to tap into that goodness within and share it with their siblings in ways that speak to each child individually. Remind your kids that even when we don’t feel loving, we can choose to exhibit the love that comes from our heavenly Father.
Thought to Ponder: Love is not simply a feeling; it’s an action.
Make it Practical:
Find at least one good thing in every situation - We’re quick to praise God in the good, but often equally quick to question Him in the darker days. Whether you find your family stuck in traffic or in the midst of a sickness that’s swept over the entire household, start a practice of finding something positive in every circumstance and thanking God that His plans are always better than our own.
