How to Wake Up Happier Every Day

DAY 3 OF 6

There was a man who sat down in a crowded restaurant and ordered his food. The food was delivered to his table, and before he started eating, he bowed his head. He thanked the Lord for providing the food. When he finished the prayer, he looked up and was about to start eating. A man that was sitting close by asked, “Hey, do you have a headache? Is there something wrong with your food?”

The man replied, “No, I was just thanking the Lord for His blessings and providing the food.”

The second man replied, “Oh, you’re one of those! Well, you know what, I work hard for my food, so when I get my food, I just dig right in.”

The first man said, “Yes, so does my dog.”

There is some truth there. Why shouldn’t we stop and thank the Lord? Even though He was still God, Jesus thanked the Father. He was recognizing God’s goodness, abundance, and provision.

Thanksgiving is a great day because you must stop and be thankful. Not only do you have to be thankful, but you must identify the One you are thankful to. You cannot just be thankful. They say that being thankful provides benefits for your health and wellness, but it is so much more than that.

Now, there is no one “secret” to the Christian life, but if we could say there was one major thing that would transform our lives, I really think it would be to be thankful—all year round. We should be as thankful the other 364 days as we are on Thanksgiving.

We should not have just one day; we should have every day as a day of thanking the Lord. It should not just be once a day that we thank the Lord, but all throughout the day. Finally, we should not just be thanking Him for only the good things that come our way. In everything, give thanks.
