My Response

DAY 7 OF 7

Work in Progress

When we accept Christ, we become a new creation.

We might find it difficult to believe this amazing truth because we still see sin in our lives, but that is the truth. When you and I confessed the Lord Jesus with our mouth and believed in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we were saved. From that day forward, we are being made new. The very fact that we are now followers of Christ shows we are no longer the same.

So, what exactly becomes new?

Our hearts are changed from hearts of stone into hearts of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26). Our hearts become sensitive to His Spirit and are now able to be shaped by His Word. We will have new desires. That doesn't mean we won't ever be tempted with fleshly desires. But the deepest desire of our heart will be to please the Lord, so we will resist the devil until he flees (James 4:7). We have new lives, which means our lives are not to be characterized by sin. We continue to be transformed into His image. We are His work in progress.

Are there days when you feel disappointed with yourself because you have messed up -- again? Days when you just want to give up? Don't! Trust Him and hold on tight!  God is still working on you to make you what you ought to be!

Lord, I praise you that you are still working on me and will not give up on me!
