According to His Heart
A prophet came to Bethlehem, sent by God to the house of a man who had eight children. His instructions were to anoint a king. Amongst them were seven tall, strong, young men. The prophet was convinced when he saw the first of them, saying "here he is". However, God told him: "Do not take into consideration his appearance, nor his great stature, man looks at the exterior, I look at the heart." After the seven had been passed up on, the youngest child remained. He was the one they did not pay attention to because he was skinny and not of military-age. He was only considered fit for errands, to graze sheep as a pastor and play the harp as a skilled musician.
David carried the smell of sheep from the field as he appeared hurriedly before the Prophet Samuel when God told him: "You will anoint him as king because he is according to my heart and he will do everything I command him." The boy who had been ignored most of his life was selected from the pasture to fill the most prominent role in Israel. That young man demonstrated that with the divine anointing the demons had to flee when he played his instrument. He learned that faith in God and courageous action was enough to bring down a giant. He showed obedience sparks victory.
David was anointed as king and showed that it was only necessary to live according to the heart of God to be successful in everything that is carried out. God wants to do His work through you, and like David, you will have to give Him your heart and be willing to obey Him. Arm yourself with courage, put your faith in motion; allow the Almighty to direct your steps as His instrument and take you wherever He wants to do His work. You do not need excessive human strength, or exterior beauty; but the Holy Spirit within you as you live life according to the heart of your Creator.
