Focus on the Promise and Not the Process

DAY 1 OF 7

Feeling Cornered

Story

On August 22, 2014. I was away on a short trip with my daughter, helping her select merchandise for her boutique. My husband, Mike, had not been feeling well that day, so I made sure I called to check on him every couple of hours. Like clockwork, I reached for my phone to check in with him, but this last call was a bit different than the previous calls. "Hey, DeeDee," he murmured. It was almost as though he were whispering. I did not expect to hear such a faint voice from such a strong guy. Having been married to this man for twenty-nine years, I knew immediately by his response and tone of voice that something was not quite right. He spoke again. I held the phone closer to my ear, struggling to hear him, and asked if he wanted me to send one of the kids to take him to the emergency room. Without hesitation, he responded, "Okay, when are they coming?" His response was an indication that this was indeed serious, and something was very wrong. Mike does not like going to the doctors' office, let alone hospitals.

That call landed Mike in two hospitals and then three weeks in the ICU in an induced coma with a 1% chance of him living and nine weeks in rehab paralyzed from the neck down. His lungs had whited entirely out. The doctor put Mike on an ECMO machine which stands for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. What is a wife supposed to do when the enemy seems to have you cornered? I felt helpless, but not hopeless, not being able to be there with him when he first went to the hospital. Mike and I got married in 1984, and we spend almost every day together. This attack on his lungs came when his helpmeet was away. I was away, but faith transcends everywhere. I did not panic at all; I trusted the real help, Jesus Christ, the healer. Today you have to decide to relinquish your power of controlling everything to the one who can handle it all.

Lesson

There is a role in righteousness that the believer is responsible for doing. One part is to choose to believe. Believing sounds so simple when things are perfect in your life. However, when challenges come, it creates unwanted stress that causes a believer not to believe. The more you learn what God has done for you by reading His word, the more you will be able to trust Him. God will never make you trust Him. Every scripture on trust tells us to put our trust in God. You will never trust someone you don't believe will keep their word. If you don't know the word, you will not know if He will or won't honor His word. The Bible is full of promises that will allow you to trust and rest through whatever you go through. The scripture tells us in Matthew 24:35, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away." The Bible also says in Numbers 23:19, "God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" So, when you feel cornered, you have to recall the words of the Father, knowing that if you trust Him, you will see His promises manifest in your life.

Faith Principle

Keep calm and trust God. When you trust Him and have faith in His promises, you will not panic when it looks like the enemy has you cornered.

Challenge

Please think about your life, as it is right now. What situation could be an indication that you are in "A Faith Process"? Have you found yourself in a corner? What actions could you take to trust God and stay calm, despite what things look like in the natural?

Word Weapon

"Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice." Isaiah 41:10 AMP
