Let us set the stage.
1,000 years after Moses and 400 years before the birth of Jesus, the Jewish people and the nation of Israel were in trouble. The Babylonians conquered Jerusalem, and all of the people were kicked out of the region for 70 years. Jerusalem was a ghost town. After 70 years, the Jewish people were able to move back into the city. Out of 2.5 million Jews, only 50,000 Jews returned.
They began to rebuild the temple and restore the city. 100 years after the first Jews came back to Jerusalem, the walls of the city were still destroyed. After many attempts to rebuild the wall, the Jewish people had given up. Everyone had given up. There weren’t any ideas left in the think tank. All advisors had moved on to other problems. The walls were going to stay destroyed, and the city would have to stay vulnerable forever.
Have you ever been in a place like that? Has there ever been an obstacle in your life that you believed couldn’t be overcome? A relationship that couldn’t be restored? A complex problem that nobody had answers for? Nehemiah was there. He so desperately wanted to figure out the solution of rebuilding the wall for his people. And he did it.
