How are conflicts handled in your household? There's a popular way of resolving issues that went viral online. A parent got an XXL t-shirt and asked her two kids, who were fighting, to share the shirt until they apologized to one another. As ridiculous as this may sound, it works! Sometimes you need to get creative when it comes to correction and discipline, and that's exactly what that parent did! Communicating right from wrong doesn't look the same for everyone because everyone has a different understanding.
If discipline wasn't as lighthearted or creative for you growing up, hearing it come up in the Bible may be difficult. And that's okay, just keep in mind that God is intentional about meeting our unique needs. God does not discipline out of rage or anger but from a place of guidance and direction. When we are called into the family of God, we are invited to be called "child," "son," or "daughter." Can we imagine God as a parent who affectionately calls on us? Who wants us to know right from wrong as a form of reconciliation?
When is a time you felt God bringing correction to your attention?

“Family” is a concept understood in every country, culture, and language, but we all have unique family structures, traditions, problems, and dysfunctions. It's not always easy to love our families, but the Bible is full of guidance on how to love each other well — we just have to be willing to apply that at home. In this 20-day devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we'll discover how to do that.
