Do you double-check the sturdiness of a chair every time, before you sit on it? The answer is probably no. Have you ever thought about that? We don’t have proof that a chair will hold our weight every time we sit down, but we still trust that it isn’t going to break. That is a simple example of faith. Faith can be a complex topic to try to understand, but, basically, it is just putting your trust in something, even if you don’t see it or have visible proof. Faith in God can sometimes be challenging, especially since we usually don’t hear God audibly speaking to us or see Him right in front of us.
But faith is the very foundation of a relationship with Jesus, because we can’t have a relationship with someone we don’t believe exists. The Bible talks a lot about how to have faith and what we should do as a result of our faith. It gives us a simple definition of faith in Hebrews 11: “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” Faith is saying, “I believe this will happen,” even if you’ve never tested it before. The entire chapter of Hebrews 11 is often called the “Faith Chapter” because it describes various heroes of the Bible who did extraordinary things by having faith! This week, we want to dive into the topic of faith and discover what God says about it. Have faith; God is ready to do great things in and through us!
