Theme: The Messiah's Mission
Crisis Converted Then:
This second servant song was to catch the attention of even the farthest places (islands again!). And the song tells the tale of a prophet’s calling. God has chosen this servant - one moment it sounds like Israel but the next it sounds like an individual. Perhaps, it is a Messiah figure who perfectly embodies what Israel was supposed to be in the world.
But in any case, this servant was called to redeem God’s wayward people, but even more so, this servant was called to reach even Gentile peoples and bring God’s salvation to the farthest places (even the islands!).
Crisis Converted Now:
The true Israelite - the one whose words cut like a sharpened sword and whose ministry redeems God’s people - comes in the person of Jesus. He is the holy and righteous remnant of Abraham’s family. He is able to draw back God’s people, cleanse them, and redirect them back on God’s mission.
Plus, his reach doesn’t end with the Jewish family but extends to the ends of the earth. Jesus saves all. He is able to reach you, no matter what shadow you’ve slunk into, because he is the image of the Holy One. God reaches for you today. Wherever you are, he reaches for you.

About this Plan
This study from Isaiah 40-55 explores our identity as people affected by trauma but living in hope. In the exile, God’s nation had to find new life when their old life had been completely overturned and destroyed. Similarly, we now find ourselves trying to “return to normal” in the aftermath of a global pandemic. Yet, God can take any crisis and convert it for his glory and our growth.
