Theme: Bowing Before God
Crisis Converted Then:
God didn’t create the world to be chaotic or empty. He rescued the world from those things. In the same way, Israel’s homeland was destroyed in war, emptied largely of its inhabitants and sat as a wasteland. It was chaotic and empty.
But God would soon form his people’s land again and fill it with his people. He wasn’t muttering this plan in the dark like a wizard but rather he was proclaiming it openly. Even as he gathered idol worshippers into court, he pressed his case that he foretold these things. When everything is finally settled, every person will acknowledge this God as victor.
Crisis Converted Now:
God has not planned our lives to be empty or chaotic. He longs to fill us with his good things and order us in the image of his Son. He’s not shy about proclaiming his good news.
Even those who lean on poor imitation gods will one day recognize the abundant life that only comes in a relationship with Jesus. Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess. The only question is: will we bow now in humility or later in shame? What empty and chaotic areas of your life today do you need to turn over in humility to God’s reign?

About this Plan
This study from Isaiah 40-55 explores our identity as people affected by trauma but living in hope. In the exile, God’s nation had to find new life when their old life had been completely overturned and destroyed. Similarly, we now find ourselves trying to “return to normal” in the aftermath of a global pandemic. Yet, God can take any crisis and convert it for his glory and our growth.
