Rest for the Soul

DAY 4 OF 5

To Rest is to Quiet Self

There are times we need to go to a quiet place to think, hear, and sense the presence of God. My closet, my shower, and my car are a few of my regulars. I find that when I am in a quiet place, I am also able to hear and sense where I am in my soul.

When we quiet ourself, we allow ourselves to come to an honest place in our souls. The hustle and bustle of life can keep the most toxic parts of us hidden if we continue in that rhythm. God called Adam out of this rhythm of hiding when he asked him in the Garden of Eden, “Where are you?” This question was more so for Adam to locate himself, to reason within his soul that he was no longer in the naked and unashamed place God created him to be. Adam and Eve were in a rhythm and place of rest, and the enemy didn't like it. The enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy that rest by separating us from the Word of God, and thus, separating us from His presence.

When we are separated from His Word, shame and a slew of other things can come on us and cause us to live in unrest. So, we must make regular time to quiet ourselves in the presence of God. It is then we can hear what’s loud in our souls and be able to call it out! We can speak to shame and tell it to go because God sent His Son to nail shame to the cross. The enemy will have to back up, and shame will be quiet!

Where are you? Find a quiet place so you can get to that honest place. It’s time to come out of hiding! God is calling you out of that old rhythm you’ve been in too long. He is bringing you back to the place where you were created to create, to thrive, to live naked and unashamed!
