Different: A Great Thing to Be

DAY 5 OF 5

Shine!

People learned to admire Macy’s outlook on life:

Sameness is fine, but Different brings light.

With brave in their hearts and with Macy to guide,

the Different in each one glowed from inside.

Devotion

Do you have a nightlight in your room? Just one light can make a big difference in the dark, can’t it? The Bible often talks about how light is more powerful than darkness. Jesus is called the Light of the World because He came to take away darkness forever! God created us to be lights too. We each shine in different ways. When we put all our lights together, we show the world more and more of who God is!

Question

When did something different about a friend of yours make you smile? Why do you think our differences bring each other joy?

Prayer

God, thank you for giving me a light to offer the world that no one else has. Help me to see how I can shine brightly just the way I am and help others shine brightly too! Amen.

Activity

Play a game of flashlight hide-and-seek with your friends or family members. (This game works best in the dark, but you can decide how dark you want it to be!) Give all but one person a flashlight. Have the person without a flashlight (the Seeker) close his or her eyes and count to ten. After counting to ten, he or she yells, “Shine your light!” Everyone turns on their flashlight from where they are hiding. When a person is found, he or she joins the Seeker in finding the other lights. After everyone is found, keep your flashlights on and see how they all give a different kind of light. But together, they shine through the darkness!
