DAY 9 OF 10

Able Men Qualified for the Service

All these were of the sons of Obed-edom with their sons and brothers, able men qualified for the service; 1 Chronicles 26:8 (ESV)

Some may see a gatekeeper’s work as humble. Remember the envy of the Psalmist, that he would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of God than dwell in the tents of wickedness (Psalm 84:10)?

Such is the quality of men that God looks for to serve him. The selected gatekeepers were able, wise, and capable men qualified for the work. They ensured that the holy temple would not be defiled by anything profane or unclean. God’s holiness is to be taken seriously.

Prayer

Abba Father, help us to imitate our Lord Jesus, not to be served but to serve.

We shall be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for we know our labor is not in vain. Whatever we do, may we serve heartily as to the Lord and not for men, knowing that we will receive Your inheritance as the reward.

So let us fear and serve You in truth with all our heart.

In Jesus’ most precious name, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: 1 Chronicles

Written in the postexilic period, the books of Chronicles present the history of Israel with a purpose very different from the other historical books like that of Books of Samuel and Kings - to remind the despairing remnants that God’s promise to bring forth a Messiah through the royal Davidic lineage still stands. Heaven and earth will pass away, but the LORD’s faithfulness endures forever.
