Uncommen: Dad Strongનમૂનો
Boundaries Are Good For Everyone
Deuteronomy 31:8 shows us that God goes before us. God is always present in our lives. As we have seen in previous devotions, a Godly dad is an active one. This means that you'll always be present as well (though in a much lesser way than God). If we're always present, should we have boundaries? YES!
Boundaries are a good thing.
Just like it's good for children to have boundaries, it may be even more important for adults to have them because we can get into a lot more trouble. While it's good to have them, many people do not like being confined by them.
1 Corinthians 10:23-24 says, "All things are lawful but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor."
Sure, you could probably be involved in every aspect of your adult child's life, but would it be helpful? Would it build up? There's no law against it, certainly, but as discerning fathers, we should consider what is most beneficial for our children in every age.
What boundaries do we need to implement as a dad who has raised children to adulthood?
- Advice: We may need to wait to be asked for advice, instead of giving it out all willy-nilly.
- Time: We will need to adjust our expectations of time spent together.
- Money: We can't solve all problems by offering money. Sometimes the lesson is learned in the struggle. That's a hard lesson for some parents.
- Speech: There will be many times when we need to hold our tongues.
- Emotions: It can be easy to have heightened emotions. It's imperative, however, to keep them in check.
Extra Credit: Life always requires adjustments. We must entirely rely on God to get through life. Our families will benefit from us praying for wisdom.
