Extravagant Worshiper

DAY 3 OF 5

Isaiah 6:2-4 Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. [3] And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” [4] At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

Isaiah beheld the glory of God and had a glimpse of his holiness. Three times the seraphim declared that the Lord is holy. It underscores that God is so set apart from our world, that there is not even a hint of evil about him. Such holiness requires that even the seraphim (burning ones) cannot expose their faces or feet in his presence. The weighty glory of God causes the doorposts and thresholds of the temple to shake. And his presence is revealed by a thick smoke.

Can you imagine being in such a glorious, yet scary situation? I’m sure Isaiah would have fallen like the guards at the tomb that shook or became like a dead man at the resurrection of Jesus. Perhaps you are thinking that your life would change, too, if you had such an experience. But when we encounter the Lord upon our salvation, we, too, experience His glory and his holiness. 2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV says: And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Through Jesus today, we can all come into the presence of God with boldness and confidence. He is the same glorious and holy God, but now that we are forgiven in Christ and made holy, we can behold his glory and be transformed into his image. Will you thank God today for his glory and his holiness? Will you thank him that you partake of those through Christ? You will be on the path to extravagant worship.
