Get Over It!: Break Free From the Stuck Cycleનમૂનો
Day 4: Mountain or Molehill?
My family and I spent two summers on mission trips to Quito, Ecuador. We spent most of our time in the barrio working with the most beautiful children. At the end of the week, we were taken to a hacienda to spend our last day and night. We spent that day on horseback, exploring the lower fields, taking in one of the most spectacular sights I’ve ever seen. The expanse of green grasses and rolling hills were surpassed in splendor only by the incredible snow-capped mountains. We stopped on a plateau where we marveled at God’s beautiful creation. On the next trip, we got closer to those mountains and did our best to climb one named Cotopaxi.
Mountain is not the accurate term for Cotopaxi. In reality, what we were seeing and climbing is one of the highest active volcanoes in the world. So sometimes, like my experience in Ecuador, the situations we face can appear as beautiful mountains when in reality they are volcanoes. Or we can think that they are all volcanoes ready to erupt when they are not. Another way to say it is, we can easily make mountains out of molehills and molehills out of mountains. We need to think objectively to know the truth in our situations. With the proper perspective, we can see clearly instead of assuming something is or must be true simply because it’s what we have believed to be true.
Only God’s Truth corrects the errors of perspective in our minds. Where do you turn for an accurate view of your situations and relationships?
PRAYER:
Your mercies are new each morning and your love endures forever, lord! Thank you for your faithfulness to me. I am in awe of you and how you love me. You are for me and I am forever grateful!
Help me to make wise choices as I challenge the old things in favor of the "new things" you are doing in my life. Teach me to turn to you for my validation and my identity. Restore and renew me to walk in your freedom and love.
