It Always Begins With the Heart

DAY 6 OF 7

A Generous Heart

In a recent conversation with a close friend, she casually said that where I spend my money shows where my heart is. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I went back and tried to understand where I was spending my money – household expenses, holidays, the latest mobile phone, shopping online. All on myself!?

How I spend my money is the most obvious of all checks to know where my heart is. But, it is the most difficult to change.

Treasures are not only in the form of finances or property. God has blessed us with good positions in the workplace. He has given us talents that are unique. He has given us the ability to influence change. How are we generous with all of this that God has given us?

An interesting acronym for LIFE is: Labour, Influence, Finances and Expertise. God expects us to be generous with all that He has endowed us with. We need to be generous with our entire L-I-F-E.

Positive psychology and happiness in the workplace is a big buzzword in many organisations. The centre of all these models is just our own selves. However, the proven fact is that generous people are happier and more positive about life than the average person. The more we give, not just of our finances, but of our time, our expertise and our labour, the more we reflect Him to the people around us.

Most often we may not have an opportunity to publicly profess our faith at work. But no one can stop us from translating our faith into action. Generosity is one way of doing this.

Is there someone who has reached out to you to help find a job? Go all out to help, because God has put you in a position to influence. Is there a colleague who needs your expertise? Give your time willingly.

God has placed us in our workplace for a purpose, often much bigger than the immediate KRAs we need to deliver. So, let us give generously with our LIFE, leaving a lasting impact on all we meet, in our season of influence.

Father, help me to be generous in every aspect of my LIFE. Amen

About this Plan

It Always Begins With the Heart

The Bible says the heart is the wellspring of life. So, how do we check our heart health? In this study, Deepa Chandrasekhar poses some searching questions to our hearts – are we content, gracious, courageous, humble, tranquil, generous and sincere? Have we thought about the contrast between how God intended for us to behave in our workplaces and how we actually do behave?
