Moving Mountains

DAY 1 OF 6

Day 1: Moving Mountains

Hebrews 10:23 “Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. God always keeps his word.” (MSG, emphasis added).

God’s Word is loaded with promises; promises that God wants us to locate in His Word and build our lives on. Why? Simply because God always, always keeps His Word. When we build our lives on God's promises, our lives become stable regardless of the storms that may arise. God is dependable and so is His Word, His promise!

Over the next few days, we will be looking at one of God’s promises. It is the mountain moving promise Jesus talked about in Matthew 17:20 “…I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (NIV). Wait a minute? Does Jesus really mean that we can move mountains? Take a look at 2 Corinthians 3:5 “Not that we are adequate in ourselves so as to consider anything as having come from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.” (NASB).

The truth is that we all face mountains. In fact, just when we have encountered one mountain, we discover that we are at the base of another mountain we need to deal with. Therefore, understanding what is meant by moving mountains is super important. Everybody has mountains, things that are too big to move. Things that seem completely impossible to endure or move past. Yet, God is saying, open your mouth and I will speak to that mountain through you and it will actually move.

Okay, so why then are mountains not moving? Why are people unable to move the mountains in front of them? How can I move something that is too big for me to move? God is going to unravel this and empower us to move mountains. Are you ready?

Meditation: What would you like to talk to God about based on today’s study?
