PEOPLE REMEMBER OUR DEEDS
What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? (James 2:14)
In a workshop on effective preaching, a speaker cited an example that a product that is easy to remember and of proven quality will be easily accepted by the public and will inevitably attract many buyers. Therefore, it is not only the logo, icon, slogan, motto, color, or shape of the packaging that must be attractive, but the content must also be proven. Likewise, the preacher should not only convey God's message well; the content of that sermon must also be proven by the preacher by experiencing it.
God is looking for people who are faithful in small things. When they are faithful in small things, they will be entrusted with bigger things or responsibilities. The more we are given great trust, the more blessings will follow us. God also wants us to be used as a channel of blessing. There is one Bible principle that we need to remember. It says that the more we give, the more we will be filled (and even until it is running over) by the Lord.
Gaius was faithful in giving to those around him, especially to fellow believers and servants of God. John’s writing about Gaius is a reminder for all of us in this day and age. Many servants of God need to be supported in their ministry to expand the Kingdom of God. Of course, our motivation in doing this is not to show our greatness, but to exalt the name of the Lord.
The measurement that is used to measure our faith is not how many verses of God's Word that we have memorized or studied. Being the doer of those verses of God's Word is more important. One of the verses in God's word that we can apply in our faith life is giving and distributing the blessings that we have received from God to other people. Is this difficult? Softening our hearts to the Holy Spirit inside us will help us do His Word.
If we are saved by faith in Lord Jesus, then we need to express that faith in our deeds.
