Learning How to Hear: A 6 Day Journey of Drowning Out the Noise and Hearing From Godનમૂનો
Let Not the Things You Hear Wear You Down
Joseph was Jacobs’s child; he was born from the wife he dearly loved and labored 14 years for. He loved him and used to buy him ornamented clothes. He also used to exempt him from the responsibilities of keeping cattle. But there once came a time where the brothers were not in the house and Jacob had to send Joseph to the field to inquire of them.
He never returned and his brothers came back with his ornamented coat marred with blood. Upon seeing this, Jacob didn’t need much evidence and concluded that his son must have been devoured by a wild beast. Jacob tore his clothes in his sorrow. He didn’t seek the Lord’s word but believed the information presented to him.
Jacob had not only advised Joseph on the childhood dream he had but he also was waiting on its manifestation. The trial that came to Joseph’s life was taking him to his destiny. In due course of time, the same people who reported the bad news announced to Jacob that Joseph is alive and governing the land of Egypt. Only upon seeing the chariots that Joseph sent did Jacob believe the good news and his soul was rejuvenated.
Just as the news that Jacob heard made him forget the dream God gave Joseph and just as his life was rejuvenated upon hearing about Joseph’s leadership in Egypt, we too as believers should not be discouraged by what we hear. But let's stand by faith, knowing that the tests and trials in a believer's life are not for death and failure, but a fulfillment of God's purpose.
Life application: What do we first feel when trials come into our lives? Let us pause and remember what God has spoken over our lives.
Prayer: Oh God! Help us hold our ground in You during trials.
