Who Is Jesus? Part 1

DAY 4 OF 7

The Go-Between

Does Jesus understand what we go through? This chapter answers that question with a resounding yes. Jesus, God in human flesh, was tempted, He was hungry, and He was faced with the choice of obedience to God or His own desires. Yet He chose rightly everytime.

This is why Jesus is our High Priest. The author of Hebrews says it like this:

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15 NIV

The high priest was the one guy who could enter the most holy part of the temple, the place where God’s presence resided. He would go in once a year and offer sacrifices on behalf of his people. Essentially, he would advocate for them, pleading with God on their behalf. Jesus is the perfect high priest, because He is the only one in all of history who knows what it’s like to be tempted and suffer as a human while at the same time fully understanding the complete holiness and heart of our God in heaven. Because He relates to both so fully, He is the perfect mediator, the go-between for us and God.

Jesus understands what we go through and the temptations we face. I mean look at what the devil offered to Jesus. Comfort, safety, and influence. How often are these the root of the very things we chase? Jesus showed us how to stand firm, but also made provisions for our mistakes.

As our High Priest, He offered a sacrifice. That sacrifice was His own body, and it was the only perfect life that could be substituted for the sins of humanity.

Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God ... 1 Peter 3:18 NLT

So come to Jesus. Allow Him to bring you home. Trust that He not only understands what you go through, but has made a way for you to be in relationship with the Creator of the universe.

Who Is Jesus? Part 1

Who is Jesus? This is the ultimate question. Because if Jesus really is who He said He is, it changes everything. But if Jesus is not who He said He is, it also changes everything. Join us in part one of our journey through the Gospel of Matthew to discover the answer to this ultimate question.
