How To Be Happy

DAY 6 OF 7

Stuck

Okay, by now you’re probably better able to understand you can play an active role in keeping difficult emotions under control by stopping, thinking, and choosing to trust God and dwell on the positive instead.

But sometimes, life is overwhelming—and the emotions you experience are also overwhelming. When you’re in the middle of a true crisis like divorce, death of a loved one, serious illness, or are recovering from an abusive situation, you probably really are in over your head. You’ll need to seek wise counsel, and you’ll need to seek it as soon as possible.

For some, emotions seem to begin inside the brain without any known cause. It can be hard to describe. Nothing’s “wrong.” No big crisis, just a flat feeling. Or just an anxious feeling. Or just a bunch of weird, negative feelings that consistently seem to ruin everything day after day.

Here’s the deal. You or someone you know might be stuck, emotionally. It might be because of a serious situation. It might be because of a biological reason. The important thing to remember is if you or a friend is stuck, find the courage to ask for help! It doesn’t have to be a big deal. It can be a text to a trusted teacher or leader. It can be a sentence to your parents like, “I’m just having a really hard time processing things lately. Can you help me?”

Don’t be afraid. Be brave, and be wise. This Bible Plan has already taught you that your feelings are God-given, they usually only last for a season, Jesus can help you to make peace with them, they don’t always accurately reflect reality, and they rub off on others around you.

If you or a friend are emotionally stuck, it’s time to be wise and seek wise counsel. Help your friend if you think they need it. Help yourself if you know you need it. Find someone who will listen and help—today.
