The Glorious Grace of God

DAY 3 OF 5

By Grace, through Faith

Salvation is a free gift we may receive by placing our faith in Jesus Christ alone (John 1:12). Emancipation from death to life eternal is always the result of this free gift.

In his magnum opus, the book of Romans, Paul said believers are “justified freely by His grace” (3:24). Similarly, in Ephesians 2:8–9, he wrote, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast".

It is not enough to believe that Jesus existed; it is necessary to believe he died for our sins. Faith is the acceptance of the free gift of eternal life offered to us by God through faith in Christ. There is nothing we do to earn this gift; it is the gracious gift of God. Paul proclaims this in Romans 4:4–5 where he declares the binary options: it is either of grace or works. There is no middle ground.

Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.

About this Plan

The Glorious Grace of God

Is salvation a gift received by faith alone? Or, is it received by faith plus works, or in tandem with an emotional experience, or in some other way? Free grace proclaims that salvation is not earned. It is the free gift of God, the uncompromised and unrestricted favor of God toward sinners. Scriptures teach us that eternal life comes through the simple act of believing in Jesus Christ, God’s Son.
