Advent: The Hope of Christmas

DAY 12 OF 18

Jesus’s Birth and The World’s Response

We live in a time and place where the power of a picture or video can become viral instantly. We live on social media and are addicted to it. Even when we look at celebrities, we look at their every move, their  latest fashion, etc. So Jesus' birth was destined to be the biggest news of that time. Afterall, for Israel, this was the long awaited Messiah that they were promised.

But what we see is that Jesus isn’t born with the glory and the crown. Instead, He came quietly in a stable.

What does this mean? What does this show us? I think often, we think and believe that the promises of God are given and shown quickly through flashy light, stages, and popularity on social media. But that isn’t the case.  And often it is not easily given. Oftentimes there’s a test we must face.

For Mary and Joseph, they had obeyed every instruction that the Lord had given, and are. facing a hard journey to Bethlehem ahead. The couple journeyed from the place they were living back home to the place where they were from. When they arrive, there’s no place for them to stay and time is running out. There’s no room except at a stable. The king of glory would be born in a manger in a stable. No matter what was going on in the present moment, God was with this couple every step of the way.

No matter what our season looks like, we must remember that God is present with us. Just as God had been present at every step of Mary and Joseph’s journey, he is with us. He loves so much. He has a plan that we can’t even imagine. He directs every step according to His will.

Pray: Take time to pray and give thanks to God for the hardships in your life, so that we could learn to trust and obey him even in the hard time.
