Bury Your Unbelief

DAY 1 OF 7

The Roots of Unbelief

I once had a man say to me, “Out of all the pastors’ wives I know, you are the biggest example of a failure. You don’t play the piano. You don’t lead worship. You just have those silly little home Bible studies.” His words hurt me deeply. If I would have let them, they could have derailed the course of my life. And yet, despite those words, it was in those “silly little home Bible studies” that we were reaching men and women with the gospel. It was from those “silly little home Bible studies” that my ministry grew into healing meetings in Pakistan and the Middle East, into a TV ministry across the globe, and into 40-plus years of seeing the miraculous works of the Lord!

Proverbs 15:4 says, “A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.” Maybe you have had words that people have spoken against you that have broken your spirit. If you keep those words alive and nurture them, they can do a lot of damage in your life. Those negative thought patterns can become areas of unbelief and now is the time to identify them and bury them! Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

There are some things that I have wanted to see God do in my life, but I have been held back by doubts or unbelief. My mind needed to be renewed. I am sure you have experienced doubt and unbelief as well. Maybe you have a crisis in your finances, your marriage, or your health. Or maybe, like the father in Mark 9:17-27, you have a crisis with one of your children. Over the next few days, I want us to look at five distinct areas in our lives where doubt and unbelief will try to sneak in if we don’t bring it to God and let Him deal with it.

Let’s cry out to God today: “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24)

Ask yourself: What words have people spoken against me? Did those words take root and cause areas of unbelief to grow in my life? Have those words held me back in any way?

About this Plan

Bury Your Unbelief

Has anyone spoken words against you that have broken your spirit? Have those words taken root and led to negative patterns like persistent disappointment, a critical mindset, illness, or even disaster or despair? This reading plan focuses on five areas of our lives where negative thoughts turn into areas of unbelief that can hold us back from experiencing peace, hope, and healing.
