Qualities Of An "Unconventional" Business Leader | 4. Driven By Purpose
In this seven-part study, we reveal scriptures and stories that illustrate the seven key qualities of Unconventional LEADING. We have looked at “L” for love God, “E” for excellence, and “A” for appreciate others. Today we will look at “D” for driven by purpose.
Ask the average businessperson, “what is the purpose of your business?” and they will usually answer, “making money.” If you ask restaurateur Peter Demos, he will likely point you to the mission statement for his chain of restaurants in the Nashville area.
His mission states, “At Demos’, we’ve always known that our purpose is larger than providing delicious food. We strive to daily live out our purpose through how we serve and care. Our purpose is to glorify God in all we do by serving others, to serve and care for our customers, and to grow profitably.”
Profits are necessary for survival, but they should not be your driver.
Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
The purpose of our life, and therefore our businesses, is to glorify God. When we become clear on God’s purpose for our business, we gain a new purpose. Rather than profits, we are able to see an impact beyond dollars and cents.
