7 Days With Jesus & Your Newborn

DAY 5 OF 7

 Made For Relationship

Contrary to popular belief, newborns do not simply smile because they are passing gas.  Some developmental theorists propose that the newborn’s smile is a mechanism for survival.  That is, the newborn smiles to survive. You fall in love with your little one’s smile and it causes you to protect him/her.  Responding to your smile and eliciting a smile from you is important for the newborn’s survival.  Your newborn instinctively knows that your affection is important.  This is proof that your baby needs you for physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.  Since your baby was made for relationships, it is time to start building a relationship with your newborn. Your loving touch, closeness, kiss, smile, and response to your baby’s emotions are important ways to build a parent-infant relationship.

Just like your newborn needs you to survive, you need God and godly people to thrive.  You were made for relationships.  You need good friends to cook for you and help you when you need a break.  My spouse and I needed human help and God graciously laid it upon people’s hearts to bless us.  People were willing to help whenever we needed help.  God used our church friends and strangers to bless us when we needed them.  Do not be afraid to ask for help. We were made for relationships.  We need God and we need people.

Prayer of Thanksgiving: Thank you Father for all the help you provide. I am glad to be in a relationship with you. I thank you for teaching me how to build a relationship with my child.
