2 Samuel

DAY 3 OF 35

Questions to consider:

1. What does this passage teach you about God?

2. What does this teach you about humanity and the world?

3. Abner finally comes to realize that Israel does belong to David and begins the process of transferring the kingdom over to David. When was a time you realized that you were going against God’s will and corrected your course? How would you like to respond next time that happens?

4. Joab murders Abner as revenge for killing his brother Asahel in the previous chapter. Joab did not let God deliver justice and thus, David pronounces a curse on him and his family. When something or someone wrongs you, how could you release your desire for revenge and give it to God? What are some Bible verses you could call on to help remind yourself that God is the enactor of justice?

Let’s pray:

Father God, thank you for being so patient with us and showing us the error of our ways. We pray that when we go against you, you would lovingly correct us and bring us back into unity with you. Help us never to react to evil with revenge, but with forgiveness and mercy.
