God Gives Pursuit
Ready:
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” – Romans 5:8
Set:
When we love our sport, we dedicate as many hours as we can to it. We stay longer in the gym or on the field after practice, working on our weaknesses and running new plays to make sure we get them right. We study film, we look to ways to eat healthy and new workout habits to keep our bodies in the best condition. We talk to our teammates about past games to recall the game-winning drives and good memories of victories together. We want to be the best we can be, so we fix our eyes on end goals of where we want to be at the season’s finale.
If we give time, heart and energy to our sport, imagine how much more God gives to His children. As we continually work our muscles and minds to excel on the playing field, God moves across the globe in incredible ways to reach a hurting heart and bring it to Himself. His end goal is heaven, when all His people are together, and He never stops dedicating His time to build relationships.
God wants to spend time with you. He wants you to know Him, and He wants to be involved in your life. God has been pursuing you since the beginning of creation. Before you were born, He had you on His mind, and He has been revealing Himself to you ever since.
God gives pursuit with a sharp eye filled with love that has a fixed mark on you, His beloved.
Throughout the Bible, God’s relentless pursuit of His people, not based on their goodness but because of His love, has paved a way for redemption, salvation, mercy, and provision. He’s always wanted a right relationship with us, but sin stained the connection and brought a gap. But God has come close to us through the life, death and teachings of Jesus Christ. His pursuit went all the way to the cross, providing a way for us to be with Him through resurrection. He came to find you and bring you into His kingdom for a glorious relationship.
Go:
1. What things have you pursued instead of God?
2. Does knowing God pursues you change the way you see your value?
3. Do something kind for someone today: open a door or leave a note of encouragement.
Workout:
Genesis 3:9; 2 Chronicles 16:9; Revelation 3:20
Overtime:
Lord, it’s amazing that You go to great lengths to pursue me. It’s amazing that You find me worth pursuing because I am created in Your image and you long to spend time with me. Thank You that You never leave me, and I ask that I walk in this truth with confidence today. Amen.
