The Hope Quotient

DAY 16 OF 60

Many Christians have lost a sense of believing God for the impossible. But not all of us.

Pastor Glen Cole was one of those Christians who believed in the impossible. The standard recommendation for pastors who are new to a church is not to change anything for the first year. Glen turned that on its ear.

During his second week of pastoring in Sacramento, California, Glen was approached by a wealthy parishioner who owned sixty acres on a busy highway. The man said, “If this church ever relocates, that would be the best location in town.’”

“Then just give it to us,” Glen responded.

The man got up and left Glen’s office without saying a word. Glen thought, Did I just blow it with an influential church member?

The next day, the man called and said, “God’s all over me on this. All sixty acres are yours, free.”

Glen called a congregational meeting where they voted to change the church name to Capital Christian Center, sell its property, and build a church and school on the sixty acres.

Glen told me the story and ended with a smile, “The vote was unanimous because nobody votes against a miracle.”

Then he said, “Do you know what’s wrong with today’s church? Nobody believes miracles can happen anymore. The church is going to be dead and lifeless until we start believing that impossible things are possible.”

You will never create the new telephone, invent new glass, raise the hopes of a church, or a family, marriage, career, or another person until your expectations are raised.

Your hope level only rises when your expectations are elevated.

Think Up:

Do you believe that miracles happen?

Do you believe miracles will happen for you? (Read on).
